Bayern Munich: After winning Bundesliga title, Bayern sights turn to Treble

It was fitting that Kane scored on a historic afternoon in Munich on Sunday.

Bayern have had many standout players this season, but none have been more successful than the number nine.

Just two years ago, Kane was being questioned over his decision to move to Germany as Bayern finished a season without a trophy for the first time in 12 years.

But fast forward to today, and not only has Kane helped his team return to the top of German football by winning back-to-back titles, he has also put himself in contention to win football’s most prestigious individual award, the Ballon d’Or, by scoring 32 goals in 27 appearances in the Bundesliga this term.

No player in Europe’s top five leagues has scored more goals than Kane’s 50 goals in all competitions.

Kane, who is currently spending his third season at Bayern, also plays in the Champions League.

He scored home and away against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals this month to help Bayern reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2024, while also equaling Frank Lampard as the English top scorer with 15 goals in the knockout stages of the tournament.

In November, Kane said: “I can score 100 goals this season, but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, you probably won’t win the Ballon d’Or.”

“It’s the same for every player. You’ve got to be winning those big trophies.”

If he can help Bayern win a seventh Champions League title and play a leading role for England at this summer’s World Cup, Kane will certainly have a strong claim to become the first Englishman to win the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001.
