BCCI to Take Matter Up With ICC if Asia Cup Trophy is Not Received by Nov 3: Devajit

Mumbai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that the board is still waiting for the Asia Cup trophy. He added that if the trophy is not handed over to them by Monday, the matter will be taken to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in its meeting on November 4.
India refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi during the post-match presentation of the final.
In response to India’s decision, an official removed the Asia Cup trophy from its place on the raised dais and lifted it off the ground without any explanation.
Speaking about the issue, Devajit Saikia told ANI, “Ten days ago, we wrote to the ACC President and requested him to hand over the trophy to BCCI as soon as possible. However, we have not received the trophy till date. We are waiting for another day. If we do not receive the trophy by November 3, a meeting will be held at the ICC headquarters in Dubai. We will raise our complaint before the apex body of international cricket. I am sure the ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy as soon as possible.”
Despite the confusion, India found a way to celebrate, with skipper Suryakumar Yadav emulating his predecessor Rohit Sharma’s slow walk after the T20 World Cup final in 2024 and lifting the imaginary trophy along with his teammates.
The impasse over the Asian Cup trophy began when India refused to accept the title of Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s home minister, amid cross-border tensions between the two countries following a five-wicket win.
