A rainy and wild Monday night game between the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders turned into a thriller between the NFL’s two oldest teams.
Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels fumbled a pass late in the fourth quarter, allowing the Bears’ defense to recover. Caleb Williams and D’Andre Swift led the offense down the field to set up Jake Moody’s field goal attempt. It was Moody’s first day on the roster, with the team signing him to replace the injured Cairo Santos.

Moody kicked a 38-yard field goal with three seconds remaining and rolling fog descending to give the Bears a 25-24 victory. Chicago improved to 3-2 with the win and the Commanders fell to 3-3.
Bears closed the first half ahead 13-0. Moody was apparently in good shape. He threw two touchdown passes and Caleb Williams ran for a touchdown to start the second quarter.
The Commanders cut into the Bears’ lead when Daniels threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Chris Moore. Washington got more points on the board after an eight-play, 25-yard drive in the third quarter that ended with a field goal by Matt Gay.
After Moody scored his third touchdown of the night, the Bears’ offense calmed down.
Daniels led with back-to-back scoring at the end of the third quarter and beginning the fourth quarter. He found Luke McCaffrey for a 33-yard touchdown pass and then threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Zach Ertz.
Williams and the Bears didn’t stay down for very long. The second-year quarterback hit Swift with a short pass. Swift made several Command defenders miss and rushed for a 55-yard touchdown. Chicago missed the 2-point conversion and fell behind by two points.

Moody was accurate on his shot attempts, although one was blocked.
Despite being in the record books during Super Bowl LVIII, he was cut by the San Francisco 49ers just weeks into the 2025 season.
Moody returned and etched his name into the Bears’ record books, making the most field goals in the Bears’ debut with four, according to ESPN.

“It’s always good to get a fresh start. I’ve always believed in myself, I’ve believed in my teammates. Thank you to (long snapper Scott Daly) and (catcher Tory Taylor). They made the operation really easy for me. Same goes for the (offensive) line up front, great guard at the end. You can’t sum it up better,” he told ESPN’s Lisa Salters.
Williams was 17/29 with 252 passing yards and a touchdown. He completed passes to eight different receivers. Swift led the team with two catches for 67 yards. Luther Burden III had four catches for 51 yards.
Swift also had 14 carries for 108 yards.
