David Beckham says parents should let their kids “make mistakes” on social media, a day after his eldest son Brooklyn revealed a family row in an explosive Instagram post.

Brooklyn made a series of damning allegations about Sir David and his wife, singer and fashion designer Victoria Beckham, on Monday, including that his parents controlled press narratives about his family and tried to “ruin” his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz Beckham.

The former England football captain did not respond to questions about Brooklyn during a public appearance in Davos, Switzerland; where he recorded a podcast with US popular science writer Adam Grant at the World Economic Forum.

The lengthy Instagram post confirmed rumors that have been circulating since Brooklyn’s 2022 wedding to the daughter of US billionaire Nelson Peltz.

Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box program amid the family feud, Sir David touched on this harsh post.

“I’ve always talked about social media and the power of social media, for better or worse,” he said.

“We talked about the bad things about what kids have access to these days.

“It can be dangerous, but I’ve personally found this, especially with my children. Use it for the right reasons.

“I’ve been able to use my platform and my followers for Unicef, and it’s been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on in the world with children.

“I tried to do the same. I tried to do the same to educate my children. They make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn.”

“That’s what I’m trying to teach my kids. But, you know, sometimes you have to let them make those mistakes, too.”

Aspiring chef and photographer Brooklyn said in his statement that he did not want to “make peace” with his family.

“For years I have remained silent and made every effort to keep these matters private,” he wrote.

“Unfortunately, my family and their team continued to go to the press, leaving me no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that were printed.

“My entire life, my family has controlled the media narrative about our family.

“Performative social media posts, family events, and inauthentic relationships have become fixtures of the life I was born into,” she said.

“Recently, I have seen with my own eyes how far they will go to spread countless lies to the media, often at the expense of innocent people, in order to protect their own image.

“But I believe the truth always comes out.”

Their parents, known as Posh and Becks, have two sons, Cruz and Romeo, and a daughter, Harper.

Brooklyn claimed his mother “missed” his first dance with Nicola at their wedding and danced “inappropriately on top of me” in front of guests, adding that he had never felt so “uncomfortable or humiliated” in his life.

He also claimed that he was “disrespected” by his wife’s family and was not invited to his father’s 50th birthday party.

“My parents have been trying non-stop to destroy my relationship since my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped,” she said.

“My family values public promotion and support above all else. Brand Beckham comes first.

“Family ‘love’ is determined by how much you post on social media or how quickly you drop everything to pose for a family photo contest, even if it comes at the expense of our professional obligations,” he said.

“My wife and I do not want a life shaped by the image, the press, and manipulation.

“All we want is peace, privacy and happiness for ourselves and our future family.”
