Bedford train crash passenger ‘angry’ after horror collision | News

A passenger on one of two trains that collided south of Bedford on Friday afternoon (June 19) said he felt “angry” the morning after the crash.

Brett Byatt, a teacher who lives in Bedford and escaped unhurt, told BBC Radio 4: Today Saturday show: “I was quite shocked yesterday. This morning feels surreal and I think I’ve moved on to the anger stage now.”

“I don’t know from whom, specifically from whom, but it’s more to do with the fact that we have one of the oldest railway networks and signal failures are very common and now I’m just wondering… why wasn’t the signal sent to my train and why did that train driver lose his life because of it?”

After the collision, a train driver died and more than 80 people were injured. An investigation will be launched into the cause of the accident after a train rear-ended a train stopped on the same track shortly after 5pm.
