Bee Attack Injures Three Teachers At Odisha School, Panic Averted

Bhubaneswar: A sudden bee attack on a school in Odisha’s Balasore district injured three teachers on Thursday morning, sparking panic on the campus but narrowly averting a bigger tragedy.
The incident took place during the opening of the school at Nilgiri Saraswati Shishu Vidyamandir in Balasore. According to initial information, a swarm of bees became aggressive and attacked staff near the entrance.
One of the teachers reportedly jumped into a nearby pond in a desperate attempt to escape. While the students had not yet arrived, school officials moved quickly to avoid tension, turning students away midway and ensuring no children were exposed to danger.
The injured included a male teacher and two female teachers, all of whom were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. While the condition of the two women was reported to be stable, it was learned that the male teacher was under medical supervision.
Gouranga Charan, a teacher at the school, said, “A swarm of bees attacked us as the school gate was opening. One of the teachers jumped into the pond to save himself.”
Initial assessments suggest that the bees may have triggered the sudden attack after a bird disturbed their hive. However, the presence of a large beehive in the school building raised concerns about security inspection.
Local authorities became aware of the incident and initiated measures to safely remove the hive and prevent similar incidents in the future.
