Beefeater has confirmed the closure of all 106 of its restaurants in a move that puts 3,800 jobs at risk. The restaurant, which serves popular classics such as steak and hamburgers, announced that it would be closed earlier this year.

Parent company Whitbread said the move was part of a five-year plan that would see the firm achieve £250 million in cost reductions. Beefeater fans now have until September 10 to say goodbye to the beloved chain.

A letter to Beefeater rewards club members Sunconfirmed the news.

He writes: “As you can see, we recently announced changes to our business, resulting in the closure of our branded restaurants.

“This means that on Thursday 10 September 2026 your local Beefeater and all other UK Beefeaters will close.”

The move will also result in the disappearance of the Brewers Fayre and Bar + Block brands.

Earlier this year Whitbread boss Dominic Paul blamed then-Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ National Insurance and business rates rises, saying the company had been forced to take action due to “significant cost increases”.

He said: “We plan to transform all our remaining branded restaurants into an integrated food and beverage service preferred by our hotel guests, paving the way for the addition of more profitable additional rooms.

“Our continued efforts to improve our commercial plan and efficiency will expand our market leading position and allow us to capture share from our competitors, many of whom are struggling to grow.”

Restaurants, often located in or near Premier Inns and also run by Whitbread, first opened more than 50 years ago.

A spokesman previously said: “As a business that employs around 15,000 people each year, we expect to retain a significant proportion of those affected and will seek to redeploy as many of our affected colleagues as possible.”
