Bees sting dad and daughter to death after truck crashes into hive | World | News

The father and his daughter crashed their car into a hive and died as a result of bee stings, and the father went to help him. Silvana da Fatima Braganca da Luz, 54, was attacked by bees after she lost control of her truck and crashed into a beehive on the side of the dirt road she was on. A neighbor who heard the noise warned his parents while waiting for emergency responders to reach the rural area where they lived.

Fatima’s 79-year-old father, Raul Portela and Luz, was badly stung while trying to save her from the overturned vehicle and died the next day due to his injuries in the hospital. His 72-year-old wife, whose name was not disclosed, was also bitten but was discharged after treatment. The drama occurred in the municipality of Vacaria, in the north-east of Brazil’s southern Rio Grande do Sul state.

Firefighters were the first emergency responders to arrive, but it took time for them to arrive because their station was approximately 40 miles from the scene.

A spokesman for the fire brigade said: “The victims suffered hundreds of bites. When the crew arrived the victim was still alive so no death had occurred when the car rolled.”

Police launched an investigation while waiting for official confirmation. Raul and his daughter died as a result of bee stings.

A shocked Juliano Gibbert said: “These are lives that could be saved.

“Beehives should never be near roads. Bees are unpredictable and can attack people for many reasons.”

Describing a similar experience, Ruth Vieira responded on social media: “A family friend was on her way to a relative’s funeral when her car overturned.

“He escaped the accident uninjured, but a swarm of bees attacked him and he died at the scene.

“His sister also died in the accident. It’s very sad.”
