Explosion rips through bar at Swiss ski resort killing several people and injuring others as they celebrate the New Year
Many people died and many were injured in the explosion that occurred at a luxury ski resort in Switzerland.
Police said the explosion occurred at the Constellation Bar in Crans-Montana at around 1.30am local time.
Footage published on local media showed a building in flames and emergency services nearby.
There are reports that the explosion may have been caused by fireworks, but police say this has not yet been confirmed.
Crans-Montana is a luxury ski resort town located in the heart of the Swiss Alps.
It is about two hours away from Switzerland’s capital, Bern, and is popular with British tourists.
“An explosion occurred from an unknown location,” said police spokesman Gaetan Lathion in the canton of Wallis in southwestern Switzerland.
Police said the explosion occurred at the Constellation Bar in Crans-Montana at around 1.30am local time.
Footage taken from the scene shows emergency services rushing to the bar in the early hours of this morning.

‘There are a few injured and a few dead.’
‘The intervention is still continuing,’ they added.
A helpline has been established for families seeking information about their loved ones.
Crans-Montana is a major ski resort with 137 kilometers of mountain trails.
It will host the FIS World Cup, a prestigious speed skiing competition, later this month.
