Belarus opposition leader, 13 others freed from jail

His wife Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, in an article in the social media site X, was among the people who were released by the opposition leader Siyarhei Tsikhanouski.
A court in Belarus sentenced Tsikhanouski to 18 years in 2021, after he was arrested in an attempt to run against the President of Alexander Lukashenko.
Tsikhanouski is in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, his wife’s spokesman.

The US ambassador Kellogg met with authoritarian Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko on Saturday to discuss a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine and to discuss bilateral relations between the United States and Belarus.
In Belarus’s 2020 elections, Lukashenko once again declared the winner and triggered unprecedented protests in the country.
Many of them saw Tikhanovskaya as the real winner of the ballot of the vote in the former Soviet Republic.
After the election, the neighbor fled to exile in Lithuania.
