Chilling CCTV captures moments elderly Sydney man kidnapped from quiet suburban home
Chilling CCTV captured the moment an elderly man was abducted from his home in Sydney’s northwest in what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity.
Police and relatives are extremely concerned for 85-year-old Chris Baghsarian, who was taken from his home in North Ryde just before 5am on Friday.
Police said there were signs of forced entry and because Mr. Baghsarian and his family had no criminal ties, they believed the kidnappers had taken the wrong person.
Footage shown by Nine on Sunday showed two men, one of whom had high vision, getting out of a dark 4WD and approaching the man’s home.
Grainy footage showed men pushing the 85-year-old towards the car before he was taken away.
A dark-coloured Toyota SUV believed to have been used in the kidnapping was later found burnt out near North Turramurra.
NSW Police Detective Acting Inspector Andrew Marks said the kidnappers had the wrong man.
“They picked up Mr. Baghsarian while he was at home, in his bedroom at his parents’ house, and they picked him up, put him in a car and took him to an unknown location,” he said.
“Police believe Mr. Baghsarian was not the intended target.”
Inspector Marks said Mr Baghsarian’s family were not involved in any criminal activity and were disturbed by the kidnapping.
“His family is very worried,” he said.
“They were quite surprised that this happened and what they want is for their father to return safely.”
He also needs daily medication and police are concerned about his health.
“We truly fear for his safety as a hostage and are requesting a very safe return and medical assistance,” Mr Marks said.
“As an 85-year-old man, we suspect he is not in good condition.”
Inspector Marks called on the kidnappers to release Baghsarian.
“Take him to the hospital. Take him to a safe place, we will take care of the rest. We will provide the necessary medical treatment,” he said.
