Everything you need to know about the Belfast stabbing

  • A horrific attack took place on Kinnaird Avenue in north Belfast at around 10.30pm on Monday night; where a man in his 40s was stabbed multiple times outside an apartment complex.

  • The victim, who suffered serious injuries in his eyes, face, neck and back as a result of being hit by the kitchen knife, was taken to the hospital. His condition remains serious.

  • A suspect in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed that the man was Sudanese and that he had been given “lawful leave to remain” in Northern Ireland.

  • The police’s counter-terrorism partners have not found any terrorist links at this stage. Authorities stated that the suspect lives close to the scene and are not looking for anyone else.

  • Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Northern Irish political leaders condemned the incident, while police praised the courage of bystanders who intervened to stop the attacker.
