PAV urges govt. to strengthen regulatory framework to prevent incidents of drug contamination

Praja Arogya Vedika (PAV), a member of Jan Swashya Abhiyan, expressed his concerns about the permanent issue of non -standard and fake drugs in the country, Minister of Union Chemicals and Fertilizers.
Madhya Pradesh and 12 children in Rajasthan underlined the need for urgent tension in order to protect patients and strengthen the country’s drug regulatory framework, connected to contaminated cough syrups containing toxic diethic diethylene glycol (Deg).
The central government aims to encourage industrial growth, while ‘ease of doing business’ policy accidentally weakened drug quality control. He added that relying on self -certification by producers allows the proliferation of non -standard and counterfeit drugs when combined with insufficient controls.
Considering the latest deaths of children due to the contamination of drugs, Pav called on the government to strengthen the regulatory framework and to include the 1940 Drug and Cosmetic Law, compulsory remembering mechanisms, more harsh penalties and faster prosecution.
The government called on the number of drugs inspectors and laboratories to increase the monitoring capacity and to punish criminals strictly.
