Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari alleges attack by Trinamool workers; sits on dharna in police station

West Bengal Assembly Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari alleged that his car was attacked by Trinamool Congress workers while he was returning from a public event in Purulia on Saturday night (January 10, 2026).

Demanding the arrest of Trinamool workers, the BJP leader sat on a dharna at the Chandrakona Police Station in Paschim Medinipur district. He said he would not leave the station until authorities took action.

“This evening around 8.20 pm, while returning from Purulia on Chandrakona Road in Paschim Medinipur district, I was brutally attacked by Trinamool goons. Emboldened by the culture of violence and impunity of the Mamata Banerjee regime, these cowards attacked me in the presence of Mamata Police,” he said.

There are nine names in the complaint

Mr Adhikari lodged a written complaint with the local police station naming nine people, all “known Trinamool faces”.

The BJP MLA also alleged that the local police did not intervene and stood by when he was attacked by “miscreants”. Mr. Adhikari added that this was an attack not only on him but on the entire Opposition.

Mr. Adhikari and the BJP branches shared the video of the attack on social media. In the footage, two groups of men carrying BJP and Trinamool flags are seen fighting on the road. BJP workers reportedly wanted to congratulate Mr. Adhikari when they were allegedly attacked by Trinamool workers.

Mr Adhikari’s vehicle was allegedly attacked with sticks and bamboos. Slogans and counter-slogans continued on both sides. The BJP said that even after the scuffle, the police could not reach the spot.

Trinamool has not responded to the allegations so far.

In August 2025, Mr. Adhikari’s car was attacked in Cooch Behar. He had later accused Trinamool Minister Udayan Guha and the local police of orchestrating the attack.
