Bengaluru East City Corporation’s maiden budget has outlay of ₹3,889.98 crore

Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner DS Ramesh presented the corporation’s first annual budget totaling ₹3,889.98 crore, prioritizing connectivity, infrastructure and public health.

The corporation has allocated ₹2.25 crore per ward, for a total of ₹112.50 crore, following demands of ₹5 crore per ward by Bengaluru city MLAs during a meeting held last week.

Among the major announcements, Mr. Ramesh said municipal bonds worth ₹200 crore will be offered and the funds raised will be used for two separate infrastructure projects: a grade separator on Alpine Eco Road and a flyover connecting Varthur and Gunjur.

The budget largely focuses on public works aimed at improving last-mile connectivity and ensuring smoother traffic flow through the development of major and sub-arterial roads.

Mr. Ramesh said the company currently has 56,722.6 sq m of land for expansion of various arterial and sub-arterial roads. The budget allocates ₹70 crore for further land acquisition.

Additionally, an allocation of ₹112.5 crore has been made for general development and maintenance of roads and drains within the corporation’s jurisdiction.

Outer Ring Road Development Plan

The company reiterated its ₹450-crore redevelopment plan for the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Mr. Ramesh talked about the plans to build footpaths along the Namma Metro viaduct in collaboration with the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA), which was recently announced in the State budget.

Additionally, asphalting of ORR service road from KR Puram to Iblur Junction has started. Beyond this area, ORR falls under the jurisdiction of the Southern company.

The company will undertake the development of roads in areas around ORR, primarily to improve last mile connectivity.

₹ 50 crore has been allocated for improving junctions, flyovers and pedestrian-friendly initiatives on major roads. Additionally, the company plans to develop 100 km of trails.

₹300 crore has been allocated for waste management, including work related to disposal, collection and sanitation.

The company will undertake the beautification of overpasses and underpasses through public-private partnership.

Of the 58 flood-prone areas identified, 38 have already been addressed and funds have been allocated to reduce flooding in the remaining locations.

While ₹28 crore has been allocated for the maintenance of 45 lakes within its jurisdiction, ₹25 crore has been allocated for the development of four lakes.

The company has allocated ₹20 crore for comprehensive development of key public spaces and preparation of a climate action plan.
