Bengaluru weather LIVE: Heavy rains and hailstorms throw life out of gear in city

The infamous KR Circle underpass, which claimed the life of a 23-year-old technician from Andhra Pradesh three years ago, was once again flooded following heavy rains on Wednesday, raising serious concerns about civic inaction.
Despite police barricading and blocking entry and exit points, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike authorities are yet to take immediate remedial measures and are reportedly waiting for the water to recede.
A police officer at the scene said the accumulated water could not be pumped out as there was no proper outlet and doing so could result in the flooding of adjacent roads.
The flood severely disrupted traffic around KR Circle, close to Vidhana Soudha, and the congestion continued even on Thursday morning.
Officials recalled that the then BBMP had carried out desilting work at the underpass to facilitate drainage following the earlier tragedy. However, the recent flood has once again revealed the ineffectiveness of these measures, although little progress has been made on the ground.
