Fox News senior correspondent Benjamin Hall and Fox News co-host Johnny “Joey” Jones presented the first “Honor Award” at the Patriot Awards on Thursday in Brookville, New York. For Hall, the story behind the award’s name has deep personal meaning for him.
Hall was seriously injured in March 2022 while covering the war in Ukraine. The car in which he and his team were traveling was hit by Russian missiles outside Kyiv.
Two people, Fox News photojournalist Pierre Zakrzewski and Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra Kuvshynova, died in the attack. It left Hall fighting for his life.

“Honor” is named after Hall’s daughter, Honor, whose voice she credits with giving her the strength to survive that day.
“It was her voice that gave me the strength I needed, the willpower I needed. It gave me more focus than I ever had in my life. And that saved me,” Hall said in a video about the moment.
Hall said he collapsed from his injuries during the missile attack. He described hearing a life-changing voice that brought him back to consciousness and safety.

The same spirit of courage and resilience inspired Edan Alexander, a dual American-Israeli citizen who received the first “Honour” award.
Alexander, a New Jersey native, was kidnapped by Hamas and held for nearly 600 days. He officially returned home in June but has since returned to Israel to continue serving in the Israel Defense Forces.
“Serving Israel and standing with America remains the greatest privilege of my life,” Alexander said in a video message released at the awards ceremony on Thursday.
Hall reflected on his own near-death experience and the meaning behind the award.
“I almost walked away and I saw my daughter, Honor. She was 6 years old and she was in front of me and she was in the darkness, there she was – Honor,” Hall said on “Fox & Friends” Thursday.
Hall continued, thanking his daughter for saving his life: “He said, ‘Dad, Dad, you’ve got to get out of the car. You’ve got to get out of the car,’ and he brought me back.”
At that moment, he thanked God for providing him with the voice he needed to hear.
“God sends you what you need to see in worst-case scenarios, and he sent me my daughter, Honor,” Hall said.

Since the accident, Hall has undergone dozens of surgeries. He returned to Ukraine for the first time since the attack in 2023 to conduct a sit-down interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
A new award was also introduced at this year’s ceremony in memory of the late Charlie Kirk. The award will be given to individuals who defend the values Kirk represents, including freedom of expression, faith and family.
