Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called on world leaders at the G7 conference on Tuesday to help the United States fight Iranian terrorism by “rooting out the financing that sustains that terrorism.”
In his speech at the “No Money for Terrorism” conference in Paris, Bessent put forward a new title for the implementation of “aggressive and targeted” sanctions.
“We believe your participation here today reflects your readiness to fully stand with us as the United States targets the financial networks that hostile actors use to carry out terrorism,” Bessent said. he said.
“This will require our European partners to join the United States in taking action against Iran, for example, by identifying Iran’s financiers, unmasking its front and shell companies, closing bank branches, and eliminating its proxies,” he said.
“In short, if you share our outrage over Iran’s destabilizing agenda, the terrorists seeking to hold the global economy hostage, the drug cartels poisoning our societies, and the threats to innocent lives, then now is the time to join the United States and act aggressively.”
