Man sentenced to life for ‘despicable’ murder of wife he killed by fire
A man who doused his wife in gasoline, brutally set her on fire and burned her to death was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Roland Griffiths, 41, appeared before the Victorian Supreme Court with a stony face as he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Kylie Sheahan in March 2022.
Judge John Champion said Griffiths had committed “a manner of death so brutal that it is beyond the understanding of most civilized people”.
The victim’s family was also present in court as Judge Champion spent more than two hours explaining the facts surrounding Ms. Sheahan’s tragic murder.
Judge Champion harshly criticized Griffiths for his “despicable” crime and told the court his remorse was “reluctant at best”.
Griffiths will serve 32 years in prison before being eligible for parole.
