OpenAI announces first permanent London office

OpenAI has announced it will open its first permanent London office with capacity for more than 500 team members, after the company halted a major AI infrastructure project in the UK

The US-based AI firm said on Monday that it signed the lease for an 88,500 square meter space. In February, OpenAI announced it would make London its largest research center outside the US. The company currently employs around 200 people in the UK capital.

“The UK has an incredible depth of talent and a strong track record in AI,” OpenAI London field leader Phoebe Thacker said in a statement. “London is already a key hub for our research and teams, and this new office gives us the space to continue building here.”
