Central unions and farmers’ organizations have called for a nationwide strike on Thursday (February 12) to protest the Centre’s ‘anti-worker, anti-farmer and pro-corporate policies’. The Bharat Bandh is expected to disrupt normal life in states like Assam, Odisha, which may be completely shut down. Punjab is also expected to see a large turnout in the strike as the ruling political party AAP is supporting the bandh.

Which states are likely to see the impact?

Outages are expected to occur in nearly 600 districts across the country. While Odisha and Assam are likely to face the heaviest lockdowns, Kerala and West Bengal are also expected to witness significant disruptions.

Bharat Bandh today: What stays open and closed?

India is gearing up for a nationwide general strike today and the strike is expected to attract large participation from a wide range of workers. Industrial labourers, public sector employees, farmers and informal sector workers are expected to support the Bharat Bandh, The Indian Express reported.

While essential services are expected to operate, disruptions are likely to occur in various sectors.
