Six workers killed, five injured in explosion at firecracker unit near Sivakasi

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, six workers were killed in a fire accident in the Gokhales Fireworks Unit in the village of Chinnakamamampatti near Sivakasi in the Virudhungar region. Five workers who were said to be critical were injured.

The wounded were admitted to the State Hospital in Sivakasi.

According to the police, Sivakasi-Satur Road in the oil and explosives Security Organization (PESO) licensed by the unit at 8.45 in the morning an explosion was heard. The first reports suggest that the friction that occurs when using chemicals during the construction of air cartridge goods may cause an accident.

Sivakasi Fire Brigade and Rescue Services Station running to the ground immediately took control of firefighters.

Eight working huts were placed on the ground under the influence of the explosion. Six bodies were rescued from the accident area. The identification of the deceased continues.

The wounded, Servaikaranpatti, R. Ramamoorthi (55) and O. Kovilpti’s Lingasamy (45) ‘s R. Alaguraja (28) are said to have grieving burn injuries.

Police D. Kannan’s Virudhungar Regional Inspector ran to the scene.
