BJP Favours Authoritarianism Over Democracy, Says Siddaramaiah

Mysuru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a scathing attack on the BJP during a SIR awareness campaign in Mysuru on Sunday, accusing the party of not believing in democracy or the Constitution and promoting authoritarianism. Addressing the meeting, Siddaramaiah alleged that the BJP’s politics was based on authoritarianism rather than democratic and constitutional values.
“They came to power through the back door. Do you know why? Because they have no faith in democracy and the Constitution that Babasaheb Ambedkar gave us. If there are anti-democracy or anti-Constitution, they are members of the BJP.”
Siddaramaiah claimed that the BJP’s advocacy of ‘One Nation, One Election’ reflects its preference for authoritarianism.
“BJP wants authoritarian rule in this country. That’s why they advocate ‘One Nation, One Election’,” he said.
Questioning the BJP’s appeal to Hindutva, Siddaramaiah asked who has historically oppressed sections of the Hindu society.
‘Those who do not know history can never create history’
“They are talking about Hindutva now. Who oppressed Hindus today? Who created caste distinctions and the varna system? Who prevented the education of Shudras for hundreds of years? You must understand this. That is why Babasaheb Ambedkar said that those who do not know history can never create history.” he said.
Urging people to understand India’s social history, Siddaramaiah said that only then can historical injustices be corrected.
“You must know history. Every individual, every Indian must know our social history. Only when we understand this can we correct it and write a new history,” he said.
Appealing to members of oppressed communities not to support the BJP, Siddaramaiah claimed that the party was against social justice because equal opportunities for all would end exploitation.
“Today, Shudras are falling victim to the incentives of the BJP. Shudras should not join the BJP under any circumstances. They are the opponents of the Shudras because if social justice is established in this country, if everyone gets equal opportunities, how can they continue to exploit people?” he claimed.
