John Fetterman reveals depression and suicidal thoughts in candid new book

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Now we all know the drill.

The lawmaker is in the news, the lawmaker writes self-serving books, the legislator promotes self-serving books to make money.

But John Fetterman is different. I have never read such a searingly frank account of what it means to struggle with depression to the point of suicide.

there is one Quote from Free Pressand gripping.

BOOK BUMMER: WHY READING IS IN A DEEP DECLINE

The Pennsylvania senator has always been a character: a 6-foot-10, hulking character who does interviews in a hoodie and isn’t liberal enough to satisfy much of the Democratic Party.

As you may recall, Fetterman suffered a stroke just before winning the Democratic nomination for the seat.

His wife, Gisele, noticed that his mouth was drooping and took him to a nearby hospital, which was luckily 10 minutes away.

Surgery saved him, but he had difficulty understanding words and sentences, communicating only via an iPhone with subtitles.

Fetterman’s condition improved, “but looking back, I should have quit.”

His name was constantly mentioned on Fox or Dr. He was being attacked by Mehmet Öz and his friends: “Uncle Festerman [in an] plus size gym rat costume, “not fit for running”, “man can’t talk”, “wax puppet”, “where is the end of man and machine?” And on social media: “Vegetable. Moron. Idiot.”

This occurred to her: “It’s probably a defining quality of depression that I’ve struggled with since childhood. My parents were 19 when they got pregnant with me, and I always felt like it was because of me that my parents couldn’t follow their own dreams. When your self-image is negative, as mine was growing up, you gravitate toward shame. You gravitate toward feeling unwanted.”

“This trend continued even into adulthood…”

“Is this my life now?”

Then came the argument against Oz. It was very bad.

“This was a make-or-break moment that would determine the outcome of the election, and I was wilted. I was overwhelmed.”

“During the entire three-and-a-half-hour drive back from the debate, reading the reactions about

“For months I was suicidal. Paranoid. I wouldn’t eat. I wouldn’t sleep. I couldn’t talk. I was dysfunctional. I was resigned. I was ashamed. I was hopeless. I was hopeless wherever I was. Up was down and down was up.” Still won by 5 points.

Fetterman said: “Once I was lying in bed and asked myself: What would you do if there was a pill on your nightstand that you couldn’t take and wake up? I would take it.”

“I couldn’t come home until I regained consciousness: The impact on our children was huge,” Gisele told him. So the senator moved in with his family.

“By February I wasn’t eating or talking to anyone…”

“I started to feel more alive and active than I had in months. To present. I felt energy.”

But there were still huge difficulties. “I was very scared when I saw my family.”

“One day, a young aspiring therapist came up to talk to me. ‘Gisele and the kids are thinking of coming to visit,’ she said.”

“I don’t think this is a good idea.” The next day: “The kids are better off without me.”

“Children need their fathers.”

The visit at Wendy’s went well. Everyone was relieved. He needed their love.
