HMDA To Build Five Defence Buildings
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will reconstruct five ministry of defense (MoD) establishments as part of the land acquisition process to build Paradise-Shamirpet Elevated Corridor on Rajiv Rahadari State Highway-1.
The five main structures are facilities belonging to the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA), Headquarters 54 Infantry Division, Senior Quality Assurance Establishment (SQAE), Trishul Lines and Training Battalion units. Construction includes new compound walls, underground water tanks, damaged electrical and sewer-related facilities, and other Army assets.
₹7.20 crore will be spent in DGQA and Headquarters 54 Infantry Division area, ₹6.81 crore will be worked on at SQAE Armaments (P24), Trishul Lines near Lothkunta Junction (₹5.72 crore), Married Accommodations of JCOs near Alwal Junction (₹5.95 crore) and Training Battalion (2TB) facilities.
“We will complete the works within the next six months. The works will be closely monitored by Military Engineering Services (MES) and defense engineering personnel to ensure compliance with stringent safety norms,” said an HMDA official.
In addition, contractors carrying out the works were instructed to comply with defense security protocols throughout the construction period and that construction activity should not interfere with military operations or routine functioning within defense zones at all costs.
According to HMDA officials, the project also reflects the growing trend of coordinated urban planning among civil authorities and defense establishments in Hyderabad, where vast tracts of cantonment and military land often intersect with expanding metropolitan infrastructure needs.
“This project is being executed despite the fact that large land parcels of the Local Military Authority (LMA) and Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) intersect with the expanding metropolitan infrastructure needs in a city,” said an engineer from HMDA.
The 18.10-kilometre Rajiv Rahadari, estimated at ₹2,232.89 crore, is being executed on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. This corridor requires the acquisition of 114 acres of Defense land and 78 acres of private land.
This elevated corridor will also have an aesthetic appeal and will be a six-lane road passing through busy places like West Marredpally, Karkhana, Trimulgherry, Bolarum, Alwal, Hakimpet and Thumkunta and heading towards the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Junction at Shamirpet.
The benefits of the project include reduced travel time from Paradise to Shamirpet and a smooth and hassle-free journey, making it a major infrastructure project connecting ORR to places in the northern parts of Telangana.
