BMRCL to induct two more trains on Yellow Line from June 3, improve frequency
The move will increase the total number of trains operating on the corridor to 10.
Nearly 10 months after the Yellow Line opens to the public in August 2025 and amid the phased commissioning of rolling stock, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will commission two additional train sets from Wednesday.
The move will increase the total number of trains operating on the corridor to 10. The Yellow Line connects RV Road with Bommasandra and has been witnessing increasing passenger numbers since its launch. However, the starting speed of the trains remained slow, resulting in overcrowding of trains and inconvenience to passengers in the corridor.
In a statement on Tuesday, BMRCL said the launch of additional train sets will enable more frequent services, especially during peak hours when passenger demand is high.
revised program
With the revised schedule, trains on the Yellow Line will run at seven-minute intervals during weekday rush hours, an improvement from the current nine-minute frequency. During off-peak hours Monday to Friday, trains will run every 10 minutes instead of the current 14-minute interval.
For weekend commuters, BMRCL has announced that trains will run at odd frequency of 10 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays. The improved service model is expected to deliver a smoother travel experience and help accommodate the increasing number of passengers in the corridor, the company said.
BMRCL has announced that there will be no change in the timings of the first and last trains departing from RV Road and Bommasandra terminal stations. Current operating hours will remain in effect throughout the week.
The revised schedule will come into force from Wednesday.
Trains were subjected to 20 days of testing
The ninth and tenth train sets connecting to the Yellow Line were dispatched from Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited in late April and early May. After their arrival in Bengaluru, the trains went through a 20-day testing and commissioning process before being allowed for passenger operations, officials said.
The Yellow Line, one of Bengaluru’s major metro corridors, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10, 2025, and opened to the public the next day. The corridor connects the city’s southern neighborhoods and Electronic City to the wider Namma Metro network.
Every train running on the line is equipped with Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, which enables driverless operations, a first for Namma Metro.
Although the CBTC system has the capacity to reduce the distance between trains from the current 150 seconds to 90 seconds, services are currently operated manually by trained train operators. Once the full CBTC functionality is implemented, the system is expected to increase operational efficiency and allow for more frequent service on the corridor.
