Body of missing US soldier recovered off coast of Morocco | US military

A search team found the body of a U.S. soldier who went missing near a cliff during a training exercise in Cap Draa, Morocco, the U.S. Army said Sunday.

Moroccan searchers found the remains in the water on Saturday, a mile (1.6 km) from where the soldier disappeared on May 2, the military said in a statement.

The Army identified the soldier as 1st Lt. Kendrick Lamont Key Jr., a platoon leader in the artillery unit.

According to the statement made by the army, a second soldier is also missing and search efforts continue.

U.S. soldiers were participating in African Lion, U.S. Africa Command’s largest joint exercise between U.S. forces, NATO allies and African partner nations.

According to Africom, the largest part of the exercise takes place in Morocco and involves approximately 5,000 personnel from more than 40 countries.
