Bollywood icon and Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle dies at age 92 after suffering heart attack

Famous Indian playback singer and Bollywood legend Asha Bhosle died of a heart attack at the age of 92.

The singer has been nominated for a Grammy twice and was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest honor in cinema, in 2000.
Eight years later, he received the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian honor.
Bhosle continued to work in his older years, launching the online talent show Asha Ki Asha in 2020 and using the slogan ‘Your Voice, My Choice’.

In September 2023, he performed at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai to celebrate his 90th birthday.
In a statement shared on the YouTube channel before the performance, the following statements were made: ‘The legendary icon of Indian music chose the Coca-Cola Arena stage to celebrate his 90th birthday.
‘As part of her birthday celebration, Asha Bhosle will be performing her superhit chart-topping songs spanning her career spanning over 8 incredible years.’

Anand told the media on Sunday: ‘My mother passed away today. People can pay their last respects to him tomorrow at 11 am at Casa Grande in Lower Parel, where he lived.
‘His last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park tomorrow at 4 pm.’

Bhosle married Ganpatrao Bhosle when she was 16, and this relationship lasted between 1949 and 1960.
The couple had three children; sons Hemant, Anand and daughter Varsha, who died by suicide at the age of 56 in 2012.
She was married to her second husband, RD Burman, from 1980 until his death in 1994.
“I had always been interested in Western music and knew that I had to change the prevailing style of singing of the age to carve a niche for myself in this industry,” recalled the 81-year-old Bhosle.
At an event organized by New Delhi-based Young Ficci Ladies Organization (YFLO), she added: ‘Eena Meene Deeka was the first song I sang in my own style.
‘Even though the older generation criticized me a lot, I found many fans among the younger generation and that’s how my career started.’
