The Age Good Food Guide 2026 Legend Award: Tansy Good

For his outstanding long-term contribution to the hospitality industry.

Chef and restaurateur Tansy Good closed her famous Kyneton restaurant in October 2025, calling time on a career that began in the 1970s – before many of today’s leading chefs were even born – and left an indelible mark on Australian food.

A self-taught chef, he has trained defining chefs such as Karen Martini and Andrew McConnell and has been awarded 30 awards. Good Food Guide hats across three Tansy’s: the first at Carlton North between 1983 and 1992, the second in the city between 1992 and 1994 and the third at Kyneton between 2019 and now.

He championed products at a time when people rarely thought about where ingredients came from and developed an uncompromising ability to combine classic French techniques with astonishing creativity to leave chefs, diners and critics in awe.

From her signature soufflé to her extraordinary style with salad leaves, there has never been another Victorian chef quite like Tansy Good.
