Bombshell moment Prince Harry reacts on air to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in the Middle Eastern nation of Jordan on Wednesday, where they will highlight efforts to support vulnerable communities affected by conflict and displacement. The couple, who left royal staff in 2020, went to Amman at the invitation of Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Their visit comes at a time of crisis for the Royal Family following the arrest of Harry’s uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The former Duke of York was arrested by Thames Valley Police on his 66th birthday last Thursday and questioned for 11 hours before being released to return to his new home at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate. He is accused of sharing confidential information with pedophile Jeffrey Epstein while serving as Britain’s trade envoy.

Channel 4 News spoke to Harry, 41, for his first televised interview while he was in Jordan, where his uncle is from. At the beginning of the interview, senior political correspondent Paul McNamara made it clear that the duke did not want to discuss Andrew so as not to distract him from the real issue: the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Speaking about the program, Paul began: “The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is dire. No one in the region is shouldering this burden as much as Jordan.”

And the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been left in no doubt over the last two days just how hopeless the situation is. “They’re walking a diplomatic tightrope.”

He added: “Prince Harry’s people did not want him to answer questions about Israel. The prince did not want to answer questions about his uncle Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.”

“The fear is that every headline will be about this and not about what’s going on in Gaza and the refugee camps in Jordan.”

Just minutes after the interview, a Channel 4 News reporter called out Andrew.

Paul said: “Look, I understand you don’t want to talk about your family, your uncle and the events in London. You’re here because you don’t want to distract from the work you’re doing on the WHO and Gaza.”

Harry looked slightly awkward as he stared directly at the reporter with his lips tight, before advancing the interview with a question about the prince’s work in Jordan.

The Duke of Sussex was then asked about the current situation in Gaza, 16 months after the conflict began, but appeared to include a statement about Andrew’s arrest.

With a sarcastic laugh, he said: “There’s so much in the news. It’s happening at an incredible pace and what’s happening in that area has been going on for a long time and is out of the news.”

“So I think it’s a really important time for us to collaborate, to come here and shine a light and focus on the real humanitarian catastrophe that’s happening and going on.”

It was Harry’s first reference to Andrew since his arrest after he was accused of leaking secrets to pedophile Epstein while serving as Britain’s trade envoy.
