Bonnie Tyler will be laid to rest in her Welsh hometown next month with fans invited to watch memorial procession after the singer died aged 75 following emergency surgery
Bonnie Tyler will be buried in her native Wales next month, following the singer’s tragic death at the age of 75.
The Total Eclipse Of The Heart hitmaker, whose real name is Gaynor Hopkins, passed away on July 8, several months after falling into a coma following emergency bowel surgery.
Bonnie died in the hospital in Portugal, where she lived with her husband Robert Sullivan, but it was announced that her funeral would take place on August 17.
On Friday, an announcement was made on behalf of Bonnie’s family by William Pressdee Funeralcare, sharing plans for a ‘celebration of life’ in the singer’s honour.
They shared that a memorial service will be held on August 15, where fans will be invited to take to the streets and pay their respects, before a private family ceremony.
The statement included the following statements: ‘R‘He will remain at William Pressdee Funeral Home until returning home to Fernhill at 3.30pm on Saturday, August 15 – those wishing to pay their respects are invited to head to Newton Road, Mumbles, from 3.15pm.’

The statement, which referred to Bonnie by her birth name, continued as follows: ‘A service commemorating Gaynor’s life will be held at Swansea Minster (St. Mary’s Church) on Monday 17 August at 12 noon.
‘Gaynor will then return to her ‘hometown’ and pass through Skewen at around 1.20pm for a private family ceremony and farewell ceremony.’
Bonnie’s family also invited fans to donate to two charities of which Bonnie is a patron, instead of sending flowers.
His charities are Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Wales and Cerebral Palsy Cymru, and the funeral home added: ‘His legacy lives on in the timeless songs that made him a legend.’
Bonnie’s death was announced by her ‘heartbroken’ family and team in a statement on their website on July 9, saying she had died in hospital in Portugal.
The artist was best known for his hits Total Eclipse Of The Heart and Holding Out For A Hero and had a new European tour planned to begin later this year.
The statement said: ‘Bonnie’s family and team are deeply saddened to announce that she passed away unexpectedly last night in hospital in Portugal due to the illness for which she was being treated.’
Bonnie was first hospitalized in May due to complications from a burst appendix and perforated intestine, requiring emergency surgery.

The singer’s spokesperson confirmed at the time: ‘Bonnie was placed in a coma by her doctors to help her recover. We know you all wish him well and ask for privacy at this difficult time.
‘We will issue a further statement when possible.’
Bonnie’s last public performance was in March when she performed at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire. He was due to perform at the Sunshine Festival in Worcester this summer, along with a string of European gigs, and was also booked to perform at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff on 17 December.
It was first reported that Bonnie started feeling unwell in May. She had been bedridden for two days at her home in the Algarve before her worried husband Robert Sullivan took her to a local private hospital, from where she was transferred to Faro.
When her health problems first emerged, her spokesperson said: ‘We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she is being treated. has a housefor emergency bowel surgery.
‘The surgery went well and he is now recovering.
‘We know all his family, friends and fans will be concerned about this news and wish him well for a full and speedy recovery.’
He was said to be ‘stable’ in an intermediate care unit at Faro Hospital before a marked deterioration in his health led to his transfer to intensive care.
On June 15, the singer’s team said he woke up from a medically induced coma after suffering a heart attack in Portugal a month ago.
They said then: ‘Bonnie is no longer in a coma but is seriously ill. ‘Although his condition is improving, his recovery is slow.’
Sources said that the woman continued her professional activities until she was hospitalized, despite complaining of pain that had persisted for several weeks.
Bonnie was also being treated for a ruptured appendix, a serious medical emergency that requires immediate surgery and antibiotics to prevent fatal infection.
When the infected appendix ruptures, a hole forms, allowing feces and bacteria to leak into the abdominal cavity.
