The government’s target of 1.2 million new homes in the five-year period to mid-2029 is unlikely to be met. Construction is currently 77,000 behind the timeline, or 30 percent slower, to reach the target. Projections from the Housing Manufacturers Association show that only 986,000 homes will be built in the time frame.
