Dorset Police confirmed they were “currently dealing with disorder involving a large number of people on Bournemouth beach in the Undercliff Drive area”. Police teams arriving at the scene are trying to disperse those involved in the incident while taking them into custody. The force said police officers had been reported to have been “attacked”, adding: “We would like to make it extremely clear that this behavior will not be tolerated.”
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan said: “I would like to thank law-abiding members of the public for their support, but I am sending a clear message to those intending to cause harm or use violence to leave the area.
“There will be a large police presence in the area as we work to ensure the safety of the public and our officers.
“We have launched an investigation into this irregularity and will continue to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”
Dorset police and crime commissioner David Sidwick also said: “I have been in contact with senior officials regarding the disturbance in Bournemouth this evening and I want to make it clear that those involved in violence and crime will be dealt with strongly.
“I will ensure our officers have the support and resources they need to effectively respond to this situation and keep the public safe.
“I would also like to thank all the officers and emergency services staff for their professionalism and dedication during this incident.”
