Bournemouth v Man Utd: Referee and VAR correct on Amad Diallo penalty claim – panel

United were furious after the match and stated that the referees would make a formal complaint to the Professional Games Match Officials (PGMO).
The Red Devils’ problem was consistency and there were two other penalties awarded in the game for stopping attacks.
Manager Michael Carrick described the decisions as “surprising” and was confused that Attwell’s decision did not match his side’s earlier spot-kick, which was given to Matheus Cunha for Alex Jimenez to pull in.
“So he gives Cunha, he doesn’t give Amad the second one, I think it’s almost the same, they actually hit someone in the box with both hands and they get across and take control of the ball,” Carrick said.
“It’s such a big moment and I don’t understand how you can give one and not the other; it’s crazy. It’s obvious.”
“Obviously, if he believes it’s a penalty then there needs to be a second one as well.”
Match of the Day commentator Alan Shearer also agreed with this view and said: “If you gave two such penalties, you should have given a penalty. How can you not give another penalty?”
The KMI Panel backed Cunha’s penalty 5:0, stating that “Jimenez clearly pulled Cunha’s jersey in a non-football manner.”
