A 15-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly kidnapping a teenage girl in Melbourne’s south-east as she walked through school gates on the last day of term on Friday.
Police allege the Wyndham teenager approached a 17-year-old girl who attended Keysborough Secondary School on Janine Road in South Springvale around 8.30am on Friday.
Police said he allegedly forced her into a car and fled the scene, driving her via Melbourne to an address on Jezebel Road in Tarneit, almost 55 kilometers from the school campus.
Special operations group officers were called to the house and arrested the 15-year-old boy at noon.
The suspect accused of kidnapping will appear in court on Saturday.
The student was taken to hospital in a stable condition, according to Ambulance Victoria.
Police believe the parties “knew each other.”
A Ministry of Education spokesperson said: Age authorities were aware of the incident at the Springvale South school campus.
“Welfare supports are provided to the family and anyone within the school community who may need them,” the spokesperson said.
The ministry declined to comment on what support was offered or whether security guards were employed on campus.
The department referred all other questions about the incident to Victoria Police.
