Boy, 16, charged with murder of teenager stabbed in Luton park | UK news

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a teenager who died of multiple stab wounds in a park in Luton, police said.

Four more young people were arrested on suspicion of the same murder.

Bedfordshire police said officers were called to the Kingsway recreation area shortly after 6.30pm on Friday following reports that a number of young people were “carrying large knives”.

The 17-year-old boy, whose identity has not yet been determined, was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Police said two boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday after initially being arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

The young man was later charged with murder and taken into custody, police said.

Three 17-year-old boys were also arrested on suspicion of murder, violent disorder and carrying a weapon, the statement said on Sunday.

DCI Nick Gardener said: “We are continuing our investigation and continue to appeal for anyone who was in the area or witnessed the events leading to the disorder to contact us.

“Our officers continue to carry out additional high visibility patrols and we continue to engage with local residents.

“We would also like to remind the public that disturbing videos or images should not be shared as this may be worrying for the families involved but also form a vital part of the police investigation.”

Luton councilor Zanib Raja also encouraged people not to share videos of the alleged incident online.

“Like many of you, I became aware of this horrific attack through disturbing videos circulating online,” Raja wrote on Facebook.

“Let me say this clearly: Do not share these. They traumatize the family, fuel fear and do not provide any help.”

He added: “A tragic incident has occurred at Kingsway Park, where many of us grew up, played and made memories.

“A place that should be safe for families, children and every resident of our town. Instead, a man lost his life in broad daylight. A family has been torn apart. Luton is suffering.”
