Boy, 8, dies after horror head-on e-bike crash on way home from school | UK | News

An eight-year-old boy has died in a terrifying e-bike collision on his way home from school. Zeke Hondow was reportedly riding his own e-bike when he collided with a 15-year-old boy who was also riding one of the electric-powered bikes.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon near the Kawana Road and Sunshine Highway intersection in Mountain Creek, Queensland, Australia. According to Queensland Police, both Zeke and the other driver were wearing helmets. Zeke, who was in critical condition, was taken to Sunshine University Hospital, but unfortunately, despite all the efforts of the medical teams, he died as a result of his injuries. Speaking at the time of the tragedy, a Queensland Police spokesman said: “The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the death of a child in a crash between two e-bikes on the afternoon of October 30.
“Investigations indicate that at approximately 3:36 p.m., a high school-aged male driver and an elementary school-age male driver crashed into the bike path near the intersection of Kawana Road and the Sunshine Highway in Mountain Creek.
“The primary school-age boy was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. “The high school-age boy refused medical treatment and is assisting police with their investigations.
“The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the incident and is appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant footage to come forward. Investigations are ongoing.”
Queensland Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg told 7News governments need to do more to address issues with e-bikes. He said: “My thoughts are with my family and friends… I also have an eight-year-old son. I can only imagine what they are going through at the moment.
“We’ve seen this technology develop rapidly very quickly, but it’s fair to say that governments at all levels need to do more to deal with it.”
