OpenAI CEO Sam Altman demands refund after waiting 7.5 years for Tesla delivery — here’s what he got in response

OpenAI Founder and CEO Sam Altman claimed that he paid $45,000 as a reservation fee for a Tesla, but has not yet received the car despite waiting 7.5 years. Frustrated with the long delay, Altman is demanding a refund from the electric car maker owned by Elon Musk.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Altman shared three screenshots of email exchanges regarding the Tesla purchase and refund requests. One screenshot shows confirmation of his reservation, while another shows his email to Tesla requesting cancellation and refund. The third email reveals that the refund request email bounced and never reached the company.
Despite an attempt to reach Tesla, the email showed an error saying “address not found”, as seen in one of the screenshots shared by the CEO.
Altman shared the screenshots and wrote, “A story in three acts.” “I was really excited for the car! And I understand the delays. But 7.5 years seemed like a long time to wait,” he wrote in the comments section of the post.
Which Tesla Model did the CEO order?
Although Altman did not specify which Tesla model he ordered, screenshots show that it was the Tesla Roadster, one of the automaker’s most anticipated models.
Tesla’s lack of communication regarding the Roadster has previously led to significant criticism. However, Elon Musk later addressed this issue, jokingly admitting that they were testing the patience of reservation holders.
Altman’s brother responded to the post
The post quickly received a lot of comments and likes, but one of the highlights came from Sam Altman’s brother, Jack Altman.
Jack cheerfully shared a photo of Sam with the quote: “Whether we burn $500 million, $5 billion, or $50 billion a year – I don’t care.” He wrote this sarcastically: “You can’t be worrying about 50 grand like that.” Sam responded to this comment: “Little brother energy is THE WORST.”
An he stated. The user asked the following question: “I see $45 thousand, where do you find the figure of $50 thousand?”
Another user said: “This is Tesla’s experience in 3 acts: excitement, hope, and heartbreak. Act 4 is Elon tweeting “soon.”
Although Tesla CEO Elon Musk has not yet commented on Altman’s post, it is not yet known whether the company has personally reached out to Altman and addressed the issue.
