Due to the impact, the female driver of the white hatchback car went into shock, a passerby stopped to help, debris was scattered on the road and traffic congested.

But this was only the beginning of the destruction.

The trail of carnage stretched 200 meters from Mount Lawley to Inglewood, and the black SUV was shattered into pieces after crashing into a lamppost.

Many businesses were affected, from the Ampol servo to the local vet, and even another lamppost was uprooted.

Local café owner Ricky Jha was one of the first on the scene and described the long trail of destruction down the road.

Jha said this was a shocking first in the decade he has worked in the area.

“It was very loud, like a gunshot or something. It was pretty bad, like scary,” he said.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee responsible escapes.

“Obviously three or four people were running in different directions,” Jha said.
