Israel kills Iran Quds Force figure in Lebanon

The Israeli army said its forces killed a member of the Iranian Quds Force in Lebanon who was involved in planning attacks from Syria and Lebanon.

The military identified the man as Hussein Mahmud Marshad al-Jawhari, describing him as a key operative in the force’s 840th unit.

The army said in a statement, without giving further details about his death, adding that he was assassinated in the “Ansariyeh” area.

In the statement, it was stated that Al-Jawhari “operated within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and was involved in terrorist activities carried out by Iran against the State of Israel and its security forces.”

Israel and Iran fought a brief war in June, and the Israeli military has been carrying out almost daily attacks on Lebanon in what it says is an effort to stop the rebuilding of the Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah.

The US-backed ceasefire agreed in November 2024 ended more than a year of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and required the powerful armed group to disarm, starting with areas adjacent to Israel south of the river.

There has been no comment yet from Iran or Lebanon.
