Bridget Phillipson and Lucy Powell set for Labour deputy showdown

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson and former Commons leader Lucy Powell are preparing for a reckoning for Labour’s assistant leadership, and the other candidate cannot get enough support.

Left Wing Backbencher Bell Riberio-Ady said he did not secure his 80 MP nomination he needed to move forward on Thursday at 17:00.

Phillipson had enough supporter the day before the deadline, Powell was only three shorts on Wednesday evening.

In the next stage, the contestants must win the support of 5% of local parties or three labor force -affiliated groups, such as the union.

Ribeiro-Ady, who broadcasts on social media after the closure of the candidacy, said, “Unfortunately, I did not provide many nominations to continue the Leadership Deputy Competition.

“I was disappointed that all the views of the workers’ members will not be represented in the ballot.”

The competition was triggered by the resignation of Angela Rayner, After not paying enough tax to the 800,000 £ apartment in Hove.

The winner will not be the Deputy Prime Minister like Rayner, because this position was given to David Lammy secretary.

However, the position of the Deputy Leader is a potentially powerful position as a connection between workers’ membership and party leadership – and if it wins, it will be at the forefront of business election campaigns.

Most importantly, they cannot be dismissed by party leader Sir Keir Starmer, because they will have their own duties.

For the next deputy leader, it is likely that the vote will be opened to workers’ members on October 8 and closed on 23 October, and the winner is announced two days later.

The remaining candidates will have the opportunity to make Woo members of Hustings during the party’s conference at Liverpool at the end of September.

The competition opens the chance to express unhappy deputies and party members of the leadership and potentially overshadow the great ministry speeches.

Phillipson, the only cabinet member in the race, appeared as an early pioneer after the support of the deputies who are loyal to the government.

However, party members may prefer a island who is ready to challenge Sir Keir, who damages Phillipson’s chances.

Powell, who has recently been dismissed from the role of a ministerial cabinet, may withdraw the support of the Sir Keir government and workers who are not satisfied with the performance of their policies.

Many senior labor figures said that the next leader should be a woman and should be out of London to resist what they see as London -based and male -dominated party leadership.
