Britain preparing for blackouts on the scale of power cuts seen in Spain and Portugal, resilience plan reveals

Britain is preparing for similar deductions to Spain and Portugal, which has left most of the Iberian Peninsula to stop.
The government’s newly published flexibility action plan revealed that ministers have been preparing for learning lessons from the “major power outage” and similar crises abroad.
Iberia shows how everyone in society can contribute to protecting a nation against destructive events, ”Iberia said.
“This may include individuals and households who are ready to keep themselves and others safe in the event of a major power outage,” he added.
By referring to the examples of the government trying to learn, the Plan emphasized the power outages caused by Storm éowyn in 2024 and the 2025 power outage on the Iberian Peninsula ”.
Discounts on the Iberian Peninsula saw almost 23 hours before working and running as usual at the end of Spain’s electricity network.
The deduction hit traffic lights, street lamps, payment terminals and screens, stopped domestic and international travel routes and chaos for passengers.
Madrid officials have shown that the power outage has been the result of technical and planning errors since then. The small grill failures concentrated in Southern Spain were fired with a chain reaction.
Weeks ago, Energy Minister Michael Shanks said Britain’s electrical system was “very flexible ve and the incident in Iberia did not affect England.
The durability plan also said that enterprises that provide critical services should be ready to respond to the supply chain cuts from new war outbreaks after the occupation of Ukraine.
Internet and radio can be taken offline depending on the severity of power outages, but people can access BBC through battery -powered devices such as telephone or car radios.
Introducing the durability plan, the Lancaster Duchy Chancellor Pat McFadden said: “In order to build a really flexible country, we must carry the conversation to what we all raise our own preparation, regardless of the future.
“If you conduct a job, it may mean raising cyber defenses. For an employee at local government, it may involve planning for a wider adverse weather events.
“And for an average person, it may include searching for vulnerable neighbors and stocking some foundations such as bottled water and a torch.”
Energy safety and Net Zero department under ED Miliband will respond to any deduction by trying to restore power as quickly as possible.
However, under the supervision of Mr. McFadden’s cabinet office, each department will be assigned to respond to policy fields such as health and education.
Lord Toby Harris, President of the National Preparation Commission, said, “The durability action plan is an important step towards building a flexible nation that is better prepared for the threats and dangers we encounter.
“Especially welcome, individuals, household peoples, communities and businesses will increase their preparations and flexibility and prevent the risk of safety vulnerabilities to better understand.”
