According to prison sources, a team from the UK’s Royal Prosecutor’s Office (CPS) supervised the Tihar prison in the national capital.
This is part of the government’s efforts to bring the fugitives back to India. The main purpose of the government was to intensify the efforts to bring back fugitives such as Nirav Modi to India. The government also wants to prove that the defendants to be returned will gain a safe environment in Tihar prison.
In the past, the British courts rejected India’s refund petitions in some cases, indicating the prison conditions. Therefore, the Indian government guaranteed Britain that no defendant would be illegally questioned in prison.
According to information, the CPS team visited Tihar’s high -security ward and spoke to the prisoners there. The authorities made sure that a special “settlement” would be built in prison buildings where high -profile defendants could remain safe when necessary.
So far, India’s 178 return requests do not wait abroad and about 20 of them are stuck in the UK. These include names of arms vendors and operators with Khalistani connections. Earlier this year, in July, Foreign Minister Vikram Misri said that the Indian government continued to “return il in order to return the fugitives from England (UK) as part of the ongoing efforts to secure the return of individuals sought for legal proceedings in India.
Likör Baron Vijay Mallya, who is currently living in London, is the subject of return efforts for the claim of credit defaults. He is accused of more than 9,000 Crore in bank loan in case of default.
Nirav Modi, who is currently in custody of the United Kingdom officials, is the president accused of more than 13,800 Crore fraudsters at Punjab National Bank. In December 2019, he was declared an illegal economic criminal by India. He was arrested in March 2019 and his return to India was already approved by the British Supreme Court. The PMLA case against him and his uncle Mehul Choksi was seized by ED in 2018 during the investigation.
