According to reports, an 11-year-old British boy died, while a 37-year-old man believed to be his father is still missing after having difficulty swimming at a beach in Malta. The horrific incident took place in Ramla Bay on Gozo in the Maltese Islands on Monday afternoon, local media reported.
It was stated that they were on the beach with their families. Rescue efforts were launched after problems occurred in the waters off the popular beach.
Police were dispatched to the scene at around 13.15 yesterday.
Shortly after, an intensive search was launched by the armed forces and the Civil Defense Department using boats and helicopters. Sun reports.
The child was pulled from the water that afternoon and treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken by ambulance to Gozo General Hospital.
According to reports, unfortunately he was pronounced dead there a short time later.
The search for the man, who is reported to be a British citizen, continues.
