British pensioner dies after colliding head-on with motorhome on Spain’s ‘Road of Death’ | World | News
A British pensioner died after his car collided head-on with a caravan on a black spot road in the province of Alicante. The fatal accident occurred around 14:00 on Tuesday, October 14, near the iconic lighthouse on the N-332 highway in the Santa Pola region. Guardia Civil said: For reasons yet to be determined, the car driven by the British is heading towards Alicante. He crossed the road and crashed into the motorhome.
Local reports say the 72-year-old woman suffered a heart attack after surviving the crash. Despite rescue efforts, it was determined that the woman died at the scene. The victim was a migrant living in Orihuela Costa, a coastal region bordering the province of Murcia. The 54-year-old Belgian man driving the caravan was hospitalized after being seriously injured, while his wife escaped unhurt. Olive Press reported.
The incident caused significant traffic congestion on N-332. Coroners spent several hours at the crash scene collecting evidence following the crash for a report.
The accident occurred in an area where accidents have occurred frequently in the past. The N-332 of the municipality of Santa Pola has among the highest vehicle accident statistics in the Valencia region, and this is often due to vehicles trying to overtake in poor visibility.
Overtaking maneuvers on single-lane roads cause the majority of deaths.
The tragedy occurred in June after a British tourist crashed into an Audi supercar worth over £100,000 and the car dramatically burst into flames and flipped onto its side.
Horrific video footage shows the luxury car lying on its roof in the middle of the road with smoke coming out of it. It was seen that the fire crews were running towards the accident, while the driver was held by his arms and dragged along the road. The accident occurred during drive-in holiday company Cannon Run’s 2025 Mega Run event.
Then, less than a month later, Liverpool man Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva were tragically killed in a car crash on the A52 motorway in Zamora, Spain. The A52 has come under heavy criticism online for its poor condition, with one person denouncing it as a “goat track”. The Lusa news agency reported that the Guardia Civil cited “a flat tire while overtaking” as the possible cause of the collision.
