The couple were part of a group of four skiing off-piste under the supervision of an instructor when they were swept away by the avalanche. Rescuers found the bodies of two British citizens in a stream 400 meters below the Manchet valley. A French skier who was skiing alone above the group also died.
Mr Leslie was a sales and marketing manager at construction company Barratt Redrow, while Mr Overy ran a plumbing business in Wimbledon, south-west London.
Mr Leslie is believed to be an experienced skier and fan of off-piste runs.
In a tribute shared on social media, his friend Craig Hunter said: “We have lost a true legend, our beautiful Stuart.”
He also said: “He lived life to the maximum; he crammed the lives of 10 men into one. He crammed every moment into everything. We shared endless laughter, unforgettable memories and dreams that came true.”
“We ate like kings, danced like no one was watching, started businesses, shared Barcelona, England, France, Dubai.”
In accordance with routine procedure when a fatal ski accident occurs, a manslaughter investigation was launched, conducted by the CRS Alpes mountain rescue police.
The avalanche occurred after Storm Nils flooded the area with fresh snow, with officials describing the accumulation as a “very unstable snowpack.”
Val d’Isère track director Cédric Bonnevie said it was unclear what caused the avalanche.
