Brooke Shields opens up about child fame and nude scenes in ‘Pretty Baby’

Brooke Shields addresses controversy surrounding her early fame.
Shields, who is currently promoting her new mystery-comedy series “You’re Killing Me” on Acorn TV, opened up about becoming a “sex symbol” at such a young age during a recent interview and talked about how she was able to turn the page later in her life.
“Believe me, I would have done this a few decades ago,” Shields said. AARP in the breakout comedy series “Friends.” He played the stalker of Matt LeBlanc’s character, Joey. “But that’s not what people wanted from me. They wanted me to be this, I don’t know, sex symbol… and that was fine.”

“I’ve always been so happy doing sketch comedy,” Shields said.

The actress rose to fame at the age of 11 for her portrayal of a child prostitute in “Pretty Baby,” in which she starred in many of Shields’ nude scenes. When she was 10, Shields posed nude for the Playboy publication Sugar’n’Spice.
“I was at the center of it,” Shields said during a panel at the South by Southwest Festival in 2024. “And I was promoting it and doing it.”
He continued: “And I was lucky because I was surrounded by a very strong mother. I didn’t move at all to Hollywood. I always went to regular school.”

“So I had a community around me that protected me, encouraged me. That’s why I didn’t become the kind of statistic that Hollywood created me to be,” Shields added.

During the same panel discussion, Shields also spoke about ageism in Hollywood.
“At 58, you’re too old to be naive, but you’re not quite a grandmother yet,” Shields said.

She continued, “My reaction, instead of being angry, was to seek out filmmakers who valued a woman over 40 and appreciated her life experience, ‘we raised kids, we had families, we had jobs, we had professional lives, we left them, we came back to them.’

“There are people who want to offer their programs to women that age.”
“My entire career has been built on beauty. As I get older, I want my message to be appreciative, but I want beauty as a form of wellness,” she added. “We’re not just a wrinkle cream.”
“We need to change the narrative and say there is beauty in this age.”
