Optus internet outage affecting Triple Zero calls in Brisbane

A new Optus outage has knocked out NBN internet connections for 95,000 customers in parts of Brisbane and Queensland, leaving some customers unable to make Triple Zero calls from their landlines.

Optus said a “network server failure” at its Brisbane exchange in the southern suburb of Rochedale caused the widespread problem.

The telco has acknowledged that customers will not be able to make Triple Zero calls from their home phone if their landline is connected via NBN. However, mobile phones were not affected.

“We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and thank our customers for their patience.”

Some customers were unable to connect to the internet as of 4 a.m. Wednesday.

“Internet voice phone calls made over a customer’s NBN broadband connection may have been impacted if the customer has an old modem without 4G or 5G backup,” the telco said.
