While presenting the budget on Sunday will be a first since 2000, weekend budgets are not without precedent. Budget 2025 presented by Nirmala Sitharaman was tabled on Saturday, as was Budget 2015 presented by then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on February 28, 2015.
A notable earlier example was the Budget 1999-2000 presented by Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha on 27 February 1999. That year there was a significant shift from the traditional 5pm offering to 11am, a break with colonial-era practice.
