Budget airline issues warning for May and June – flights cancelled | World | News

A budget airline operating across Europe has canceled a number of flights due to ongoing jet fuel shortages due to conflict in the Middle East. Transavia, a subsidiary of the Air France-KLM group, has become the latest airline to announce that it will shorten its flight schedule. The airline said this move will affect approximately 2% of its overall schedule. The flights removed from the schedule are operated to and from France.

This will affect passengers who have already booked these flights and they will be offered a refund or the opportunity to rebook. Affected passengers will be contacted via text message or email. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz blocked crude oil exports, which increased jet fuel prices and led to shortages. Experts have previously warned that Europe only has a few weeks’ worth of jet fuel left, while others have urged people to book summer flights now before prices rise.

Transavia France said in a statement: “Due to the current geopolitical context in the Middle East and its impact on aviation fuel prices, it is adjusting its flight schedule and is forced to cancel several flights planned for May and June 2026.”

It is one of many international airlines reducing its flight schedule amid the jet fuel crisis. Germany’s flag carrier Lufthansa has confirmed that it will discontinue its service between Glasgow and Frankfurt, with the last flight between the two cities available to be booked on May 31.

He revealed that Lufthansa’s summer tariff would be reduced by less than 1%, blaming the high price of kerosene. “To compensate for this, Lufthansa has taken immediate action and will consolidate the flight schedules of all Lufthansa Group airlines and cancel 20,000 flights by the end of October. As a result of these decisions, flights to Glasgow will no longer be operated by Lufthansa via Frankfurt, but by Edelweiss via Zurich, which provides access to the Swiss International Airlines network for the time being,” the airline said in a statement.

Other airlines that announced some flights were canceled include Air Canada, Asiana Airlines, Delta, KLM and SAS. Meanwhile, other airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, Thai Airways and British Airways owner IAG have also announced higher fares.
